Unforgettable Frank Capra

Creativity is a phenomenon whereby something new and somehow valuable is formed. The created item may be intangible (such as an idea, a scientific theory, amusical composition, or a joke) or a physical object (such as an invention, a literary work, or a painting).-wikipedia

To me creativity is defined  as using a notion, concept or idea. It is the process of assimilating an old concept ,forming into something personal,  conceptualizing and finally crystallize into something new .And  finally transforming this to reality.

Here are some few well known  names  who  have gained  recognition in their own respective fields.Today’s generation would recognize and be familiar such as  Steve Job’s(Apple Computer),Bill Gates (Microsoft),Douglas Engelbart(creator of the mouse),Alex Chun, Carlos Marlo Rodrigues(Starbucks). The list is endless.

When we talk about creativity the first person that comes in my mind was an Italian-American director of the 1930’s and 1940’s. His name?

Frank Capra ,who was born and named  Francesco Rosario Capra . He was born in  Bisacquino Sicily in May 18 1897.

He was an Italian American Film Director,Writer and producer. Today’s generation would ask , Who is he?

He was only five years old when he first arrived in the United States. Frank Capra is the persona of American dream, a man who grew from the ranks . During his growing up years, Frank Capra sold newspapers after his classes. He finished college in the Califorinia Institute of Technology. He was a working student and finally tucked a degree under his belt finishing Chemical Engineering in 1918. Capra became one of America’s most influential directors during the 1930’s and 1940’s

Though born in Sicily, he was brought up in California. He won three Oscars and was nominated four or six times as  the Best Director.

The Value of Education – Capra later wrote that his college education had “changed his whole viewpoint on life from the viewpoint of an alley rat to the viewpoint of a cultured person”

Frank CapraThe most memorable movie I watched when I was young is the  classic movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”(1946). It starred James Stewart(George Bailey) and  Donna Reed(Mary Bailey). There was a remake of the movie done in the seventies . The title of the movie was “It Happened One Christmas” Marlo Thomas(Mary Hatch).

Every now and the then the movie show’s once in a while during Christmas Season. What comes to my mind is the classic of Charles Dickens who wrote the Christmas Carol. I love the ingenious creativity of  Frank Capra who conceptualized and personalized the creation of the movie “It’s a Wonderful Life”.

I fondly recall the hey days of Beta-max  era in the  late Seventies and early Nineteen Eighties. My sister Vanessa loved to hunt and rammage  for old classic black and white movies in Greenhills. Some movie’s were the works of Fank Capra such as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington , It’s a Wonderful Life, Meet John Doe . I love those early day’s when Internet did not exist, nor the microcomputers  which was in it’s infant stage

The Age of microcomputers and internet today further has helped many people become aware of the works ,Life and times of Mr. Frank Capra.

Capra stresses Values

The art of Frank Capra is very simple: It’s the love of people. Add two simple ideals to this love of people: the freedom of each individual, and the equal importance of each individual, and you have the principle upon which I based all my films.
